Continuing from last semesters work on the study of the family and home environment, this installationuses the symbol of the house as a symbolic sign for the notion of ‘home’ and ‘family’. By recreating a village type feel with the houses a uniform colour the viewer would be encouraged to walk through the installationto experience the media associated with different houses. The theatrical lighting enhances the idealistic superficial feel to the houses, playing on the notion that the home is a sanctuary, however, the sounds and shadows from inside suggest otherwise.

sense of place
Sense of Place
Danielle Kelly
Rather than focusing on a physical sense of place, this work deals with the ephemeral notion of place within a family. Un-monumental events such as family dinners become more significant once isolated from other daily activities. Familiar scenes from movies of families eating dinner enables most viewers to identify with the event and feel a connection to scenarios portrayed.
By juxtaposing ‘family-dinner’ scenes in a grid and playing them simultaneously, the viewer would only be able to pay attention to certain aspects of the videos rather than absorbing all the scenes at the same time. The inability to comprehend all scenes at once, results in the viewer recognising phrases and actions, which trigger personal memories and feelings. Similar to the Rorschach inkblot test, individuals would have different reactions as they watch the scenes and identify with what is personally relevant.
Similar to Félix González-Torres’s use of personal particularities within his work by focusing on his illness, I decided to focus on a subject that was significant to myself. Being a ‘love child’ without acceptance of my fathers existing family; issues of family permeated my day-to-day life making me aware that even within ‘traditional’ family units there can be many psychological and cultural issues.

made from coke bottles.
representing the ammount of coke bottles i find each day walking to class from the carpark at uni.

Natures nest eggs.
THE BODY SERIES #1
Stradbroke camp.
First year fine art students go on a weekend camp to create art on beautiful stradbroke island.
Here is the exhibition we held once we got home from straddy.
The sheets on the wall were the collaborative works, my group's were the two on the left, and the one made into a tent.
At the beginning of the camp we were given pieces of paper (message sticks) and we were supposed to create a work depicting our time on camp...
mine is below...

Sculpture 1.
My first sculpture assignment.
Made from Clear Packing tape.
the table and cairs represent the snack foods that are sold at the shops these are photopgraphed at. They look like a table and chair, just like a bowl of chips looks like food... wheras there is no value to it, you can't sit on them, just like you get no nutritional value from chips.

Jewellery and Small Objects
This assignment, made from Copper and other random materials (street directory) was for an assignment about 'place', in particular places that are special to people.
The houses represent the homes people live in, with the symbols as windows suggesting that each there are many differences within the community (represented by the fragmented map underneath). inside the houses are similarly special objects representing the people inside.
Because the viewer had to look through the window to see what it was inside, this was to give a feeling of being intrusive or 'sneaky'.
